Ruperalia Group chairman, Sudhir Ruparelia, has announced the construction of a $100m (Shs366b) hotel at Katinda, Entebbe road ,along the shores of Lake Victoria ,
On completion, the new five-star hotel shall house a convention centre, conference halls and 350 rooms on a 20- acre expanse .
Commenting on the development Tourism State Minister, Suubi Kiwanda said “We also need international brands to set up here and this can be achieved through partnerships. We wish Mr Ruparelia partners with brands like Marriot and Hilton because this comes with more visitors and opportunities,”
Ms Jean Byamugisha, the UHOA Uganda Hotel Owners Association executive director, said Uganda currently has about 400,000 hotel rooms irrespective of different classification of hotels and to out-compete other tourism destinations, the country needs to have at least one million rooms spread in major towns.
Completion is expected within three years.
