Jewel of lake victoria - Lolui Island 3 Days 2 Nights
Dolwe Island, a remote gem on Lake Victoria, is renowned for its ancient rock art dating back 3000 years, earning it the moniker "Jewel of Lake Victoria" for its crystal blue waters, quartz, and rock art.
Day One:
Embark on an early morning journey from Jinja, the city of the Source of The Nile, heading 22 km on the Iganga main highway. At Namayingo town junction one hour away, ,head (32 km) on time to catch the MV Sigulu car ferry departing at 08:30. The three hour ferry takes you through isolated islands, and the equator crossing at the centre of the Earth. Optionally, a private speed boat can cut the journey time in half. On arrival you are received by your host, then transferred to La Fang Eco Resort, a 5-minute drive from the pier. Check into your cottage and enjoy a sumptuous lunch.
Explore Mwango Rock, a hidden jewel among various rock formations. Take a boat ride on Lake Victoria's crystal-clear waters. The obelisk, almost ten stories high, is located off the main island in the village of Mwango, hosting diverse bird species. Witness lizards basking on the rocks. Other points of interest include ancient gongs and hiking the Badege or Singila village rocks with scenic views of fishing boats heading towards Munene islands across . Return to the resort for a bonfire dinner and an overnight stay
.Day Two:
After a leisurely breakfast, head to Gorofa, a Rock Art site nominated for World Heritage. Experience the sounds of ancient gongs, believed by locals to convey messages from ancestors through the wind and waves. Explore the rock gongs, rocks with natural resonance producing musical sounds when struck. Enjoy a bush lunch in the lush Dolwe grasslands, try fishing with locals, before you return with your catch to your accommodation for a sundowner high tea.
Day Three: Departure
Rise at leisure or for the adrenaline junkies head for quad biking, cycling, or leisurely walks along sandy beach trails or villages . Visit the over twenty thousand rock art sites if time allows. After a hearty lunch, catch the 2:00 PM ferry to the mainland and proceed to Kampala, Jinja, or your onward destination.
