Murchison Falls National Park – 3 Days / 2 Nights
Hemingway’s encounters
In 1954, Ernest Hemingway and his wife crash-landed twice in the heart of Africa — near the thundering Murchison Falls. They survived. And today, your adventure follows their trail — through the same wilderness that tested the endurance of one of literature’s greatest explorers. At 07:00 AM, your guide will collect you from your hotel or residence in Kampala. Depart for Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s largest protected area, where the Victoria Nile carves its way through a 43-meter gorge with thunderous force.
Day 1: Departure: Murchison Falls National Park Drive time: 5.5 hours (including stopovers)
06:45 – Your guide will pick you up from your Kampala residence or hotel. Enjoy a coffee break at Masindi Hotel, Kabalega Diners, or a similar café before continuing to Murchison Falls National Park via the Kichumbanyobo Gate.
Arrive and check in at your appointed safari lodge for lunch. Spend the afternoon at leisure, soaking in the tranquility of the park before returning for dinner and overnight.

Rise early for a morning game drive—the best time to spot wildlife as the savannah awakens. Expect sightings of elephant, buffalo, hartebeest, giraffe, lion, leopard, and a variety of birdlife including the Ground Hornbill, Grey Kestrel, and Abyssinian Roller.
After lunch, embark on a memorable launch cruise along the Nile to the base of the falls. Watch hippos, crocodiles, and elephants along the banks and spot dazzling birdlife such as the Malachite Kingfisher, Fish Eagle, Cormorants, and Saddle-billed Stork.
Don’t miss the historic canyon where Hemingway crash-landed and where scenes from the 1950s blockbuster “The African Queen” were played out. Return for a late breakfast and some leisure at your lodge.
At 2:00 PM, embark on the legendary launch cruise up the Victoria Nile — a serene but spectacular journey. Watch as hippos wallow, crocodiles bask, and fish eagles soar high above. Along the riverbank, you may glimpse buffalo, giraffe, and elephants — a living canvas of Africa’s untamed beauty. Don’t miss the canyon where Hemingway’s plane crash-landed or the stretch of river immortalized in the 1950s Hollywood classic The African Queen, starring Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn. Return to your lodge as dusk settles, the air humming with the sounds of the bush. Overnight: At your appointed safari lodge
